Major Programmatic Changes Guidelines
According to NDAC Section 54-03.2-06-02 Programmatic Changes, pre-licensure (*leading to RN, LPN, APRN licensure, or additional APRN population foci) nursing education programs approved by the ND Board of Nursing must submit major programmatic changes to the board for approval prior to implementation. Programs are to collaborate with the Education Division and provide a letter to the board detailing the programmatic change(s) and the expected start date. All major programmatic change requests will be reviewed by the Nursing Education Committee prior to the ND Board of Nursing. Submissions for programmatic changes must be submitted no later than 10 business days prior to the Nursing Education Committee meeting date.
The following actions qualify as major programmatic changes requiring prior approval by the board (requires a motion and approval):
- Addition of a new course
- Deletion of a current course
- Overall curriculum design revisions
- Change in overall credit hours required for program completion (addition or deletion)
- Enrollment increase or decrease equal to or greater than 8 students or 25% of current admission (whichever is the lower threshold)
- Addition or deletion of a program site
- Addition, change, or deletion of a degree offered by the nursing program
The following program actions qualify as notifications to the board (does not require a motion or approval)
- Change in name of program/track/school
- Change in location and/or delivery format of partial or all of the program
- Change in program administration (new director’s, chairs, coordinator’s)
- Higher Learning Commission and other national accreditation updates
- Change in organizational structures affecting the nursing division
- Change in mission, philosophy, or program outcomes.
The following program actions are not required to be presented to the board, if approved internally by program/school:
- Change in course title
- Change in course specific details (description, objective, content, credit hours)
- Change in admission criteria
- Change in general education requirements
- Change in program specific student or faculty policies
